November 24, 2008 A Life of Changes Quoting the first line of the first chapter from the book, A Tale of Two Cities – “It was the best of times. It was the worst of times…” pretty sums up most of our lives. I would conjecture to say that most of the human race goes through periods of stability and instability (Boyd & Bee: Levinson’s Life Structure, 88-89). A roller coaster ride, if you will, of ups and downs. The following is an excerpt of some of my life changes. I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on June 4, 1955. I came into my family as the youngest of three children. My brother, Cliff being 11 years old, and, mysister Sherri, age 9. I would find out later in my life that I was a “reconciliation” that did not work out. I would never “meet” my father. At the age of one month old, my family and I movedand subsequently lived, until I was seven years old, in Chambly ( a suburb of Montreal), Quebec, Canada. I loved the winter time there. We made our very own ice skating rink in our back yard every year. I was an ice skating professional at the age of three (watch out Olympics). My brother would “build” a “ice house” for me by making Ice blocks and stacking them upon each other. I spent many hours creating my own adventure in my “winter wonderland”. Then in September 1962, my mother, brother, sister, and I set out on a (real) adventure. It would be an adventure that would take us to Southern California, and a new life. Our first stop was Garden Grove, California, where we rented a house for a short period of time. What I remember most about the area was all of the orange groves.
