The first critical success factor is Stan Shih’s leadership, it’s not difficult to find out that Stan is a visionary leader who is very good at bringing talented people together. He created an environment and culture that could allow the employee to develop their potentials and work collaboratively and act in the best interests of the firm. He developed goals that are shared by the employees and their entrepreneurial spirit via share ownership program (p.2). His “anti patriarch-dominated” philosophy highlighted a huge difference for Acer among other family-run business at that time. His delegation and hands-off management style empowered the employees and cultivate the loyalty of them to the organization. He also strengthened trust and create cooperation atmosphere in the corporate system. It can be revealed by the slogan “Tutors conceal nothing from their pupils”(p.2) As a result, this young company at that time built up their reputation quickly and became a very attractive place for bright young engineers, especially those talented overseas Chinese with international experience who buy in the equity sharing system, this converging effect of energetic and promising youngster, together formed a very solid foundations and implanted crucial seed that could incorporate the rapid future expansion when the opportunity came later. Having said that, Stan Shih’s leadership is the indispensable catalyst for the transition from a Chinese company to an international company.
