This is a narrow mission statement because it emphasizes its primary business, but limits the scope of the firm’s activities in terms of the product or service offered, the technology used, and the market served (Wheelen and Hunger P. 13).
Herbert Hainer, the CEO of Adidas, chose a good mission statement because he understands the industry and environment he is dealing with right now. The United States is in a recession right now which not only affects the country we live in but the rest of the world. In these types of situations, companies want to emphasize what they do best and not fail to identify what the organization is about. The sporting goods industry is their main focus which gives their mission statement favor and distinction. This statement tells its stakeholders this company is committed to constant growth, no matter what the situation may be. The mission statement shows us this company is endeavoring to become the number one company in this industry.
