Aisians Need To Provide Global Leadership

Kishore Mahbubani, dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore, said that “Asia Needs to Provide Global Leadership.” In one of his book he states that the Asian voice is never heard in the rest of the world and that the world is moving into a completely new historical era from monoculture to multicultural. He states that the West is not at an end but Western dominance of Global Leadership is.
He admits that the West, particularly the United States, rules-based order was the direct contributing factor to the rise of the East. Asian elites trained in the United States brought this corporate knowledge back to Asia. Now their economies and cultures are booming.
Mahbubani states that the Middle East, China, and India’s time for Global Leadership is near. The march to modernity in Asia began in Japan, and then went to Southeast Asia, then China, then India-and from there it will go to Pakistan and the Middle East. China is one of the most misunderstood countries in the world. Western universities are rushing to partner with Chinese universities which are considered universities of the future. China may have a closed political system, but it has open minds. India will play a critical role but Western angst toward India will be significantly low because there are no traditional differences between India and the West.

Major Issues/Problems:
Mahbubani states that the West benignly ran the world for the past 200 years. It could do that when it felt confident and secure, but as we grow increasingly insecure, we will become part of the problem and not the solution. That problem is who will take on the role and responsibility of Global Leadership? Will China or India step up to the plate?
