Anaximender

Our western philosophy began in 6th century BC in Greece. The word philosophy has many meanings and in my opinion, “Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline” is the most important. The very first philosophers were the Presocatric philosophers. They were intrestid in science, astronomy and, maths . The first presocratic philoshophers was Thales folowed by Anaximander  and Anaximenes. Since the time of Thales, Greece is often referred to as the birthplace of Western culture. It is with Anaximander of Miletus that the history of written Greek Philosophers began.
 Anaximander was born in the city of Miletus, which is located in current day Turkey. He was one of the pupils of Thales who is considered to be the inventor of Greek maths and philosophy. Together Thales and Anaximander, they created the Milesian School of Pre-Socratic Philosophy which introduced new opinions oposing the popular viewpoint on how the world was organized. The Milesians were considered the first truly scientific philosophies.
Anaximander is considered to be the first philosopher to use the word Arche, which means the principle. Thales believed that the Arche was water, which meant that everything was made from water. However, Anaximander believed that the Arche was defined as the Apeiron, which means the boundless. Since the ancient times, it has been difficult to describe what Anaximander meant by “The Boundless” since he never left a meaning for that in his writings. Many philosophers have tried, during the time, to explain what Anaximander meant about this word. Aristotle reported a curios argument about the Apeiron for him the boundless has no origin because itself is the origin.
