Balanaced Score Card

HR Balanced Scorecards in Action: Sample Measures From Real Life Scorecards

About This Material

We have reviewed measures from several different client projects including:

1. Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc.;

2. Astra Merk;

3. BancOne;

4. Lever;

5. PPG Industries, Inc. Fiber Glass Business Unit; and

6. Warner-Lambert Company.

Each section includes some general observations about the approach and measures used by clients, as well as specific measures that were identified. The measures of all companies were combined under a more generic goal/purpose, since there was considerable duplication among these goals.
Similar goals and measures may appear in two or more sections of the scorecard (such as Improving Products and Services). This reflects how our clients have chosen to categorize these goals.

It was interesting to note how our consulting approach has evolved over time. For instance, earlier projects contain only measures. More recently our projects have encouraged clients to identify purpose, goals, outcomes, as well as supporting measures.

General Observations

Many of these HR organizations look at their own expenses in relation to company-wide measures such as revenue, sales, operating profit, and/or net income.
