Biblical Icons: Moses- From Birth to the Burning Bush  Born a Hebrew child, Moses came into the world at a time when his people were facing persecution by the standing tyrannical Pharaoh. At that time, the Pharaoh had ordered the children of the Israelites to be killed, and separated the men and women by putting them into jails. He also enthralled the women by making them servants. This all stemmed from someone telling him that a child from the Israelites would destroy him with his kingdom. In addition, he appointed Coptic women to keep an eye out for male babies born to Israelites, and if they found one, they were to kill it (Kirsch 35). So Moses’ father, Amram, (whose name translates into high people), and his mother, Jochebed, (whose name translates into glory to Jehovah), according to the book of Hebrews 11:23, decided that they were not afraid of Pharaoh’s punishment and that their child was too beautiful to be killed, and hid Moses for three months (King James Version, Hebrews 11.1). But why did they hide him for just three months? The reason they hid him for just three months was, because during that period he was able to remain a bit more silent and discreet, and wasn’t very conspicuous to people outside of his home; but as he grew older, this quickly changed and something had to be done.  Not knowing what else to do because the child was so loud and hard to hide any longer, Jochebed sought the Lord for what she should do. Amram and she were saddened, because they didn’t want to see their baby killed, for according to the book of Hebrews 11:23, they knew he was a proper child (King James Version, Hebrews 11.23).
