The meeting was at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church which is in form of a dome and the floor of the church is in the shape of a cross, and behind the table there is a big cross. Other churches have spires, this church was crafted and designed beautifully and the dome is used to crown the church. Separating the altar is the paintings on a screen and behind that there is the altar table. Behind the altar table is the image of the Virgin Mary and under it is the communion of the apostles. This church is highly structured with the symbolism in the inside and is powerful in a spiritual way. Other churches don’t portray paintings on the walls but rather sculpture.
Announced bible study on Tuesdays and stressed that keeping harmony is important and also peace. Main priorities were the young people and the student aid fund. There was discussion about the best way to use the money and it was concluded that it should be gifted to those who are in need of help. The funds were twice as much and announced that the church dance groups will foretaste their performances in a sponsored luncheon. Then a break was given, shortly after we were told that on the 15 the church will be closed. A paper was passed out to reinforce our religious lives by praying daily, worshipping on a regular basis, and sharing faith with others. Then had a moment of silence and after prayed for what was discussed. Seemed interesting to me was that the Greek community in Downey shares it culture through the Greek festival which will take place on June, it is celebrated yearly....
