I work for a nonprofit organization named Haven Ministries. Haven Ministries originated in 1934 by a sailor named First Mate Bob. The main function of Haven Ministries is the 30 minute radio program, known as Haven Today, which is aired throughout the United States as well as internationally. This ministry falls under Corporation Code Section 9110 ? Domestic Nonprofit Religious Corporations. Section 9110 informs us there must be a name, the company is named Haven Ministries. There must also be a director; this person can change throughout the years, however, the initial director(s) are named on the articles. For Haven, this would be First Mate Bob. I cannot recall at this time his legal name. Section 9110 continues to inform the reader that the corporation will still need to follow the laws and must abide by any provisions specified in the articles filed. Members are not personally held liable for any debts, liabilities, or obligations of the corporations. This sections just as all others breaks down for the corporation what is expected of the corporation. (California Law, 2008)
