Chery Automobiles was founded in 1997 by five local state owned investment companies in Wuhu, Anhui Province. The first car was produced on December 1999. This Chinese company is the only automobile company in china that is a totally Chinese owned and managed.
Last year was one of Chery’s most important years, which reflected the domestic development of China's increasing industrial strength, it sold 25% more vehicles than the previous year in china, as well as the overseas sales volume doubled with a 132% increase. These makes Chery the 4th largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in China. It’s successful growth in the domestic market showed that Chery could successfully continue without being defeated by any competition, specially since for years and years the automobile industry had been monopolized by manufacturers that were joint ventures between Chinese and foreign manufacturers. Chery is now the leader among independently owned, domestic automotive companies. It exports to 60 countries and regions around the world, and for the last five consecutive years, it has ranked number one as the leading Chinese exporter of passenger cars.
July and August
Through a very fearful automobile competition Chery won a share of 50 through competing with the participating foreign brands, thus becoming the first Chinese brand to appear in the Olympic Games. Known as the Olympics Green Messengers. Specially when fuel prices keep increasing, 50 gas-electric hybrid taxis started to run on the streets of Beijing. The hybrid taxi has the words “hybrid electric vehicle” engraved on the sides of the car. These cars were delivered to seven taxi companies in Beijing.
