Choice and Accountability
In the personal progress manual, the scripture for Choice and Accountability is: Joshua 24:15.
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my douse, we will serve the LORD.
And the quote is:
I will choose good over evil and will accept responsibility for my decisions.
I really like these because it shows that we have always had a choice and that we are now and always have been accountable for that choice.
When we were fighting the war in heaven, we chose heavenly father’s plan and we knew that we would be able to make choices. We also knew that we would have to be accountable for those choices and live with the consequences. We all wanted to be able to choose and to have that accountability.
I really like this value, because it is so important today that we are making the right choices and are held accountable. This value is one of my favorites, not because it is more important than the others, but because choice and accountability is what started it all. Without it, we couldn’t have chosen to come to earth and make our own mistakes. This means that we couldn’t have church, or the gospel, or anything because we would have been told exactly what to do so that we went back to heaven again. And while sometimes it seems like it would be nice to have someone telling us everything to do so that we all go to the celestial kingdom, I know I don’t want to be told what to do all the time. I much prefer making my own mistakes and learning through the Holy Ghost what I have to do for exaltation.
