Christmas and Hanukkah

 

    Though
from different religions, Christmas and Hanukkah also known as the festival of lights in modern day
America have become quite similar. In case you
didn't know Hanukkah is about a a lamp that

was in a ruined church it
only had enough fuel to burn for one day but it lasted eight, and
Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the birth of Christ. They
both have

become commercialized. The way they are treated, and even
the holidays themselves have even been changed in meaning. Though
they are from different religions

both holidays support similar
values and customs.

    When
someone asks you how was your Christmas or Hanukkah some people reply
by telling what they got and how they liked it. For many, the
holidays are just

about gifts and not the spiritual meaning any more.
Approximately $474.5 billion was spent on holiday related expenses
last year, that's a lot. How many commercials

have you seen that
are Christmas themed? This is one place where they differ
commercially, Christmas is much more mainstream a reasonable
fraction of the money

spent on Christmas gifts is spent by
non-Christians. In fact the ' mascot' of Christmas is Santa a fat
man who gives gifts and is used to get people to buy things. For

some
people the holidays are just an excuse to spend money.

    Both
holidays are not what they used to be they have been changed and
twisted from there original meanings. Apart from what many people
believe about Hanukkah

based on the way it is treated, it is not that
major of a Jewish holiday. It is important, yes, but the only reason
