FORMWORK
Formwork is an arrangement of mould for concreting. Because freshly mixed concrete is in liquid state. So it should be placed in a mould to get the required shape. After a suitable period form works can be removed. This mould arrangement also can be mentioned as shuttering. If formwork and shuttering are in suitable shapes and sizes according to the work, then the finishing work can be handled easily. Formwork should be fixed in perfect alignment and it should be supported and braced as to withstand any buckling, displacement, vibration or movement of any kind. And they should be constructed as no grout leakages during concreting. To maintain the dimensions of shuttering during the concreting and compacting, ties and clamps should be provided for shuttering. Shuttering shall be made of steel or timber. At the site plywood was used for column, beam and staircase from work. Steel plates were used slab formwork (as bottom of slab). Steel props were used to support the formwork to maintain the verticality and horizontality of columns, beams and slabs. Concreted column formwork can be removed after 24 hours (1 day) and beam formwork can be removed after 72 hours (3 days).
FORMWORK OF COLUMN (VERTICAL FORMWORK)
At the site according to the column size, distances from the grid line (out line of column) were marked. Off lines also marked to check the verticality of column (details about grid lines and off lines are described in Chapter 2). By referring those out lines column formwork was constructed. Before constructing the shuttering, a base should be arranged. That means the bottom of column (not column footing) should be concreted for ¾” height. This base is named as “kicker box “. By this arrangement shuttering can be set out easily. Inner surface of shutt ...
