Mobile Web Strategies
A full day discussion on the current and future state of the mobile web.
Some of the companies that attended and participated in discussions included: Motricity, Ericsson, MocoSpace, itsmy, mig33, Openwave, Skyfire, Greystripe, Admob, Nokia, Yahoo, ESPN and AOL.
Why do people in the US use the mobile web?
1.    Stay connected
2.    Stay current
3.    Being efficient with their idle time
4.    For urgent uses
Email is the killer app for mobile web and one of the most widely used services. E-commerce has yet to take off in the US and is seeing plenty of hurdles due to lack of trust in the eyes of the consumer.
What came as a surprise  was that people are using the mobile web everywhere – not just on the bus on the way somewhere, but at home, at work, really anywhere even places where there are other internet connections available.
Mobile Social Networking
In research done by Ericsson, Pioneer and Mainstream Youth (ages 15 – 24), are extremely interested in LBS – letting their friends know where they are and making it easier to find their friends.
Many agreed that in the very early stages of mobile social networking, mobile advertising should be the main business model to provide these services for little to no cost. Although, one panel member mentioned that carriers should aggregate ALL the social networks and make it part of a data package where it FEELS free to the consumer but bundled somehow.
