1.1 Introduction to Intercultural Training

The key sentence “a global market needs global managers” clarifies in which world we are living. Nowadays it is not enough to speak a common language such as English because it does not guarantee an effective communication. Based on this idea, Intercultural Training was created. The term Intercultural Training is not new. There has been Intercultural Training since intercultural communication exists through people from different cultures who have been encountering one another. What is new, however, is the systematic study of what exactly happens when intercultural contacts take place and which solutions can be found to prevent intercultural misunderstandings.
When a person starts communicating with people from another country and besides with a different cultural background the adjustment process usually begins.
Generally, everyone who visits another country as a tourist realizes some superficial differences between the natives and oneself but it should be considered that this kind of contact could be exciting. There are no consequences, which could influence a contracting party.
Intercultural Training programs are able to show participants the rules, which should be, remembered when they go abroad. Normally, persons who attend these kinds of programs have the intention on working abroad. That’s why it is important to know how the “the game should be played”. On the one hand enterprises send their employees to attend trainings for being successful and avoid failures abroad, on the other hand the effectiveness of Intercultural Training cannot be defined directly. It can be optimized through proper preparation namely trough proper training.
