Synopsis
The purpose of this essay is to discuss that unethical and illegal use of information technology has become a significant and serious problem for the world. There has four main ideas were explored by the essay. The results confirmed that personal information could be stolen and abused. Furthermore, various significant information of a company could be divulged. Moreover, the computer systems of government department could be hacked in. And, information technology has become a weapon for terrorists. However, the most convince idea of the sources is information technology has used as a weapon for terrorists which seems to be the most serious problem of information technology abuse; it is a worldwide problem and could lead harmful to public. The results suggest that more powerful anti-hacker systems and feasible laws about information technology use have to be set up by the governments. Moreover, the unyielding security policies, such as cryptography techniques, have to be executed in a company, and digital signature techniques should be used to verify information for avoid personal information divulgence to forger.
There is no doubt that the unethical and illegal use of information technology has become a significant, worldwide problem for individual citizens, business, government and international security. ‘Information technology’ can be defined as the hardware, software and communications that supports information systems. ‘Illegal’ can be defined as doing something that is not allowed by the law, and ‘unethical’ is not following the accepted standards of behavior, such as lying and cheating (Baase, 2003, p 1).
