ENERGY CRYSES IN PAKISTAN
Suicide bombing and worse political condition has already crippled country’s economy, where on the other hand the crises of energy shocked it. Energy crises not only damaged the industrial sector, but destroyed the small-scale business as well. Few days back, the government announced to reduce the time period of load shedding from four hours to half an hour but it is not complied by electricity administration. The government also ruled business associations to close every business activity early in the evening, to conflict such crises but it did not work. Electricity is not the only element gas has also created the uncertainty in industrial as well as small-scale businesses.
In recent survey there is expectation of huge crises of energy resources in upcoming years. Fifty per cent of country’s need of energy is fulfilled by gas moreover the demand of gas will increase from 27 MTOE (Million Ton Oil Energy) to 39 MTOE till 2010, with this increasing demand of energy resources, though, the government planned a project to increase the production of electricity up to 7,880 MW till 2010 and under this project the government has to produce 4,860 MW electricity from those power plants that are operated by gas energy but this target does not seems to achieve due to not completion of import projects of gas in time.
Economists believe that deficiency in the production of electricity may pass 5,500 MW till 2010 while in the same period the demand for oil will increase from 16.7 million ton to 21.5 million ton. On the other hand, if the supply of the gas will not increase then the dependency on the import of oil will increase, which will never be profitable for the economy.
