Ethics

Is lying always wrong?  That is a question that has been asked for years. In my home lying is always wrong. I have told my children, if you tell me the truth you do not get punished as hard. This does not stop the lying, nor does it slow them down from letting their lips open up and lying to me.  It is something as parents; we try to teach our children. Is this a natural response as humans that happen on a daily basses? Are lies just a part of who we are? I would have to say yes. Even though we know it is wrong, and we should not do it. It happens on an everyday basses. We lye to our children about little things to keep them from being sad or unhappy, or our husbands to keep from fighting over things that have no meaning in life.  If we walked around telling everyone just what we thought.  I would have to say we would have a lot of unhappy people in our lives.
      In my research I came across a site called Is Lying Ever Justified? By, Rabbi Stahl S.M. (Oct.11, 2002) He states that God himself told a white lye to Abraham. He says that God misquoted Sarah when talking to Abraham to spare his feelings. He went on to say that their Torah portion will record a white lie that God Himself told. The Rabbis stated that the seal of God is truth; they looked favorably on God’s lying to Abraham to promote peace within the family. The Rabbis find that this statement is not unethical or unmoral if a lie keeps peace with in the family. I looked this site up and then went to the bible to see if I read the same thing. I found people can look at the same thing and use different words and consider it a lie. In that is self I find to be unethical.
