Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) can help you
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the benefits of FMLA.
Central Idea: FMLA provides 12 weeks of job protection in case an employee needs to care for a seriously ill
Introduction
I. Start with a question - Have you ever had to decide between your job and your health?
II. Adapt to the audience - At some point in time we have or will be experiencing one or maybe many of these situations.
III. Establish creditability - Personal example and I started researching for alternatives to find the FMLA of 1993.
IV. Preview - The Family and Medical Leave Act or better known as FMLA. The FMLA provides American families, just like yours and mine, with the ability to take up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave for qualifying situations.
(Transition: Now that I have provided a brief overview of the Act I will talk about who qualifies, when does it apply and the benefits it provides.)
Body
I. First let me explain who qualifies.
A. An employee my have worked12 month of employment with the employer.
B. The employee must provided at least 1250 hours of service in the last year
II. Now that we know who qualifies let’s talk about when the Act applies.
    A. FMLA can be use for prenatal care,
B. Birth,
C. to care for a newborn, adopted or a foster child.
D. Also it can be used to care for a seriously ill immediate family member such as spouse, parent, and children.
E. To care for ourselves in case we are unable to perform the essential duties of your job due to a serious health condition.
(Transition: Keeping in mind the qualifications and when FMLA applies let’s look at the benefits it provides.)
