1. Write a brief description and explain the composition of the four indices listed above.
• Australia - All Ordinaries :
All Ordinaries is also known as All Ordinaries Index. It was started in year 1980 being an oldest index of shares in Australia, because it has almost all common shares listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). The companies in the All Ordinaries shows more than 95% of the market capitalization of all shares which are listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. They have a base index of 500. In year 2000 All ordinaries was restructured to consist of 500 largest companies by market capitalization which resulted into the emergence of S&P/ASX 200 index , which reduced the importance of All Ordinaries Index. • Hong Kong - Hang Seng :
Hang Seng is also known as Hang Seng Index(HSI), which is a stock market index of Hong Kong, started in year 1969, maintained bye HSI Services Limited, owned by Hang Seng Bank, which is the largest bank listed by market capitalization in Hong Kong. HSI is a free float adjusted market capitalization index, which takes care of daily changes in the largest companies of Hong Kong. There are 40 companies which shows 65% of the total market capitalization of the shares listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. (Wikipedia,www.hsi.com.hk)
