Running head: GAP ANALYSIS: KUIPER LEDA
Gap Analysis: Kuiper Leda
Gap Analysis: Kuiper Leda
Supply chain management (SCM) is a vital component in a firm’s operations (Chase, Jacobs and Aquilano, 2005) but developing a system is not an easy task (Ganguly and Guin, 2007). Kuiper Leda (KL), is a small electronics components manufacturer specializing in sensors for the automotive industry. KL has accepted an order from Midland Motors (Midland) and this order presents a growth opportunity for KL (Appollo, 2005). This paper reveals the challenges and opportunities that KL now faces regarding its supply chain management. KL’s stakeholders’ perspective, ethical dilemmas, an end-state vision and a SCM gap analysis is shared. KL must improve its current SCM to realize its growth opportunity. Potoker (1999) suggests management strategy must recognize the inter-relationships of logistics which include transportation, production and SCM if growth opportunity is to be realized..

Midland has asked KL to produce a large number of Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) but the order surpasses KL’s production capacity.
KL does not have a strong SCM process. KL must ensure it achieves the highest returns while meeting the needs of its customers. KL has a desire to develop into and become a global player. Therefore, Chase et al., (2005) would suggest KL must look at its raw material orders, work in progress inventory and ...
