General Cable Corporation

General Cable Corporation is an international company that has become a leader in the fiber optic wire and cable products industry.  The company, which is headquartered in Highland Heights, Kentucky, serves the entire globe with its entire product line.  Their products include copper, aluminum, and fiber optic wire and cable products for the energy, industrial, specialty and communications markets.  (General Cable Corporation, 2006)  General Cable provides products for such diverse clients as electrical utility companies, military and government agencies, and communications customers worldwide.  Their operations include: 45 manufacturing facilities in 22 countries, boasts a staff of 12,000 associates, and has sales representatives around the globe.  (General Cable Corporation, 2006)  
    General Cable Corporation first began doing business in 1844 but was not incorporated until 1927.  The company was founded by consolidating numerous other companies and plant facilities.  The idea was to bring the collective experience of these older companies together to form a leader in the industry.  Some of the companies had been in existence since the 1800’s and included Standard Underground Cable which was founded by George Westinghouse.  (General Cable Corporation, 2006)
