Globalisation

Globalisation is a heavily contested concept of which academics cannot agree. For some it is a new and novel characteristic of modern day life and for others it is a repeat of past waves of global integration. In this essay I am going to further discuss the different aspects of globalisation and address whether globalisation is important in the developing of our world or if it simply creates opportunities for global destruction.
Globalisation is not a new phenomenon. It is simply a relatively new word used to describe a very old process. The main difference between globalisation of the past and that of today is the speed of its development. Every part of life is affected by global change in one aspect or another, whether this is in our popular culture, or growing economy, our environment, technology, politics or even where we live. Globalisation also increases the flow of trade, communication, technology, capital information and even our mobility to move freely around the world. In many aspect the increase and advance of Information technology has been associate with the improvement and growth of the world where as it can also be seen to bring about huge destructive forces. For this reason debate abounds over whether or not globalisation is a good or bad thing. Whilst globalisation is thought by many to make societies richer through trade and bring vast amount of knowledge and technology to the world some see it as an exploitation of the poor by the rich and a huge threat to culture.
