The British monarchy and politics.

The British monarchy in the Victorian age  
-is a system, in which a hereditary monarch reigns over  
the United Kingdom (UK). Which in the Victorian age was Queen Victoria ,she is the longest reigning monarch to date(63years). During queen Victoria’s reign, England built a huge colonial empire, which included India and Egypt(1858), she was considered the empress of India.   During her reign she changed the monarchy from being a political ruler over England to being a symbolic ruler, this was done so that the British monarchy would survive longer than any other monarchy.

Events that took place in the Victorian age
- Opium war against china, England took control of Hong Kong (1839-1842)
- Crimean war against Russia (1853-1856)
- De Boer war (1899-1902)
- Population increased due to migration
- The making of the railways
- The change from England being mainly agricultural to industrial ( industrial revolution)
- The making of a proper government (laws were passed and more structure to parliament)
 
British politics before the Victorian age:
- There wasn’t a ministry in Britain between 1783-1830.
- There weren’t any laws or rules that people were to abide by, people lived under the ruling of the monarchy.
