Executive Summary: Greatest Human Resource Challenges Facing Companies Today

    Human Resource managers face challenges dealing with diversity, selection, compensation, lay-offs, recruitment, and technology. All present different challenges which must be managed.
    Diversity is appreciating those who are different within the workplace. It presents a unique challenge in that it is totally voluntary, and to get employees to except and adapt to diversity efforts are not always clear cut. Managers have to educate employees on the importance of a diversified workforce and explain the implications diversity has on the bottom line, and market share the company enjoys. Through research, it has been found that organizations that are diversified have fewer turnovers, have an increased bottom line, have a greater sense of cohesiveness within the company, have a greater appeal to a larger market, and have a better overall reputation. Diversity is built on the proposition that if we spend time on assuring that all employees and their abilities are accessible, and if processes are inclusive and do not deliberately or inadvertently exclude anyone from fully participating, then individual employees will take more of a personal responsibility for diversity. Managers have the challenge of recognizing that diversity is threaded through every aspect of management and they also have to have the willingness to challenge and change institutional practices that present barriers to different groups.
