This essay will analyse organisational behaviours, structures and cultures within defined frameworks and the context of the changes in the retail sector. The essay will conduct these facets by examining the case study by Danusia Malina and Paul Brook, A Re-managed Heart in Retail Change.
The essay will start off by examining the case study and discussing how the external environment can have an impact upon the organisational behaviour of Stox Stores.
It will then go on and discuss how an understanding of the relationship between organisational culture and organisational development can influence the way change is managed.
Secondly the essay will discuss how Stox Stores could implement the current changes more effectively, also give recommendations.
Finally the essay will conclude on the discussion of Stox Stores current move towards a HRM approach to managing the human resource progression.
   Human resource management can be defined in many ways as H Newell and H Scarbrough would describe it in simple terms as; The management of people in organisations. They also add; “In modern societies with complex changes in the nature of work and technology, it is increasingly recognised that the effective and efficient production of goods and services requires more from employees and their passive compliances with managerial instructions. What is needed is their active commitment and initiative. Management of human resources can be seen to be as important for corporate success as the handling of any other management activities”
