In 1991, Dr. Michael Riordan founded Riordan Plastics, Inc to further his research, development, and licensing of existing patents for processing polymers into high tensile strength plastic substrates. After obtaining additional financing, he acquired a fan manufacturing plant in Pontiac, MI and changed the company’s name to Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. following the purchase of another manufacturing plant in Albany, GA; the company started producing plastic beverage containers in 1993. Since this expansion, the company, in 2000, moved its complete fan manufacturing operation to China. In addition to this move, Riordan Manufacturing, Inc retooled its Pontiac facility to manufacture custom plastic parts (Apollo Group, Inc, 2006).
