One ethical issue that Pan Pacific Hotel may encounter using the new ERP system would be the issue of privacy. This is because the use of ERP systems helps to integrate a lot of information in a single system. This information includes personal information that Pan Pacific Hotel collects from their customers, depending on what services they use or products they acquire. This personal information may include the name, address, email address, contact number and etc. Even information derived from cookies, customers’ IP addresses, browser type and etc, are collected by Pan Pacific Hotel.
With the system, these information all consolidated at one place might be visible to all that handle the system. This can lead to administrative evil which means company’s employees may manipulate the database easily for their own or other uses. They might be able to release confidential data of the company and the company’s customers to competitors or unauthorized individuals as well if they have the intention of doing so. An increase in amount of people viewing large amounts of company data at one site also increases the risk of unintentional release of data. For example, Pan Pacific might accidentally email their customer regarding the confirmation of their stay in the hotel, and in that email, customer’s personal information is included. But Pan Pacific hotel employee accidentally sends that email to another email address. Hence the wrongly sent email will release that specific customer’s personal information to the others. Such issue(s) might occur and therefore an efficient system does not mean that it is safe....
