Jesus and Mohammad   College  Religions of the World HUM 130  Instructor:  Due date  Jesus and Mohammad  Introduction  The Religions of Christianity and Islam were both found on Jewishscriptures. They both trace their origins to Abraham. They believe in prophecy, Gods messengers, and resurrection of the dead. Christians and Muslims also share a belief that there is only one God/Allah. These religions are also known as “Abrahamicreligions” because of their common origin with Abraham. Ishmael, who was the first born son of Abraham, is considered to the Muslims as the father of the Arabs. He was also an ancestor of Mohammed. Isaac, who was Abraham’s second son, is known as the Father of the Jews, and whose story is told in the Book of Genesis. Even though these two religions share major similarities, they also have a large variety of differences as well. Christianity and Islam are two of the largest religions of the world having over a billion of followers today. They also have two of the most important figures in religious history. They are Jesus who was the founder of Christianity and Mohammed, who founded Islam.  Historical Lives of Jesus and Mohammed  The name of Jesus is derived from the Greek form of Hebrew Joshua, which means savior, and the name Christ is a title that also comes from the Greek form of the Hebrew Messiah which means anointed one. Jesus was said to be the son of God, and was born in Bethlehem to Mary who was a devout Jew and Joseph who was a carpenter. According to the Book of Mathew and Luke Jesus was conceived through the miracle of the Holy Spirit.
