Decisions are worthless until they are translated into positive action, which in turn involves the decision maker in making a series of logical decisions and choices. Langdon (2006) stated, “Decision making involves making a choice to solve a problem” (Ch. 2, p. 5). The presence of the US Postal Service is vital in assisting in the overall development on the island of Kava for its people, the workforce, the economy, and healthcare concerns. Putting the decision making process to work our strategic team will use various tools and techniques to determine factors, evaluate resources, and evaluate ethical implications that affected our decision implementation. Implementation is an important part of what produces great decision results (Russo & Schoemaker, 2002).
Kava has many issues that it is up against, keeping it from being an island of paradise in the South Pacific. These issues are a direct result of the disastrous threats, such as hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, and health epidemics. One of the determining factors that will affect our decision is the fact that over 50% of Kava’s population is under the age of 15 years old. This has a significant impact on Kava’s workforce and its economy. Their minors are too young and don’t posses the necessary skills to be in the workforce; therefore, not being able to contribute to Kava’s economy. The sources of the economy are comprised of coffee, cocoa, sugar, spices, bananas, tourism, petroleum and natural gas.
