Killer Coke

2) The Killer Coke case deals mainly with an effort being mounted are the Killer Coke campaign headed by Ray Rogers. The campaign was started in 2003 by Ray Rogers, he created a web site killercoke.org, and he labelled Coke the new Nike. He claims that Coke will only change its ways if there is significant pressure and the fear of a tarnished image.  This whole situation began to reveal itself in 1996 when the Ariosto Milan Mosquera was hired to manage the Carepa bottling plant. Mosquera allegedly began threatening to destroy the union. He granted access to paramilitaries to drive the union out of the plant by using threats of violence. On September 27th, 1996 Sinaltrainal submitted a letter to Coca-Cola Columbia informing them of the plan Mosquera was implementing, however it appears this letter fell on deaf ears.  On December 5th, 1996 paramilitaries approached Isidro Segundo Gil and claimed they needed to be let into the plant. Once Gil opened the door he was shot and killed, a witness claimed that these were the same paramilitaries who met with Mosquera. These paramilitaries proceeded to round up the plants employees and forced them to resign from the union or to face the same fate as Gil, needless to say the employees signed the resignation form.  Coca-Cola claims they did nothing wrong and that it was the plants issue, this whole incident went to trial and a court ruled that the blame fell on the Bebidas plant and Panamerican Bottling not Coca-Cola U.S.A. or Coca-Cola Columbia.
