Kushner

Everyone in one point in time of their life goes through some sort problem or suffering , whether it be directly connected to you or to a someone you know ,  you will be affected  and question. When bad things happen we always question why, or how this could happen. In the lecture, When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Harold Kushner, a Conservative rabbi. Kushner addresses the principal problems of theodicy, the conundrum of why, if the universe was created and is governed by a God who is of a good and loving nature, there is nonetheless so much suffering and pain in it — essentially, the evidential problem of evil. Theodicy is  a specific branch of theology and philosophy that attempts to reconcile the existence of evil or suffering in the world with the belief in an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent God, also known as the problem of evil.

In this lecture, Kushner came to the topic of suffering through a terrible tragedy in his family, when his Son died at a young age because of disease.  He talks about our reactions to things and how  we try to blame someone, making people sometimes the reason. Kushner goes on about the story of Job, in which he  Breaks the story into three reasonings of why it is happening. God is  all Powerful. Second God is good, fair ,and kind and third Job is a good man. He goes on to saying that you can not affirm any two only by denying the third and that one must be given up. He then says that Job’s friends deny that Job is good because he is not healthy wealthy or respected any more and that Job must have done something to desrve this and that God was punishim him.
