Problem Solution: Harrison-Keyes Inc.
Harrison-Keyes is facing a turning point within the publishing industry. Competition from many angles such as large retailers, EBooks, discount dealers and self-publishing has slowed sales and weakened market share in the past decade. In order to compensate for lost sales and re=establish itself as a publishing giant, it has determined to create an EBook sales division. Without a clear mission statement that delineates the company’s direction and future, no clear cut plan has evolved to either shape the company, or propel the EBook project into reality.
Harrison-Keyes has lost some of the good will that it has developed with its writers over the years and at present, is facing an author revolt. Much of the fallout from the EBook project is due to a gross lack of project control and research.
If the company had a clear and concise mission statement along with a strategic plan that identified goals and objectives, the EBook project would have moved along more smoothly. If the company wants to capture new markets as well as grow existing ones, it will have to back up and formulate a plan for the years to come.
