Letting Writing Techniques

Good-news letters and bad-news letters share some pretty significant differences. The first difference is in the introduction of both. In a good-new letter you want to get straight to the point and tell the reader what you are writing about. The tone is clearly going to be positive since you are conveying good news. In a bad-news letter, the introduction is not going to get straight to the point. It is going to start off with a buffer to prepare the reader for the bad news. The tone of it should be neutral. In the discussion paragraph of a good news letter you just describe in detail the good news you are delivering to them. As oppose to a bad news letter where in the discussion paragraph you are stating the bad news but backing it up with quantifiable proof. Further more the conclusion in a good news letter usually consists of a plan of what to do next or what action is expected. The conclusion of a bad news letter is all about leaving the reader with some hope and some suggestions on how to get back on your good graces.

One example of some news I would deliver in a bad news letter is telling a potential employee of my company that he/she did not get the job. Some techniques I would use are definitely the buffer in the introduction paragraph, so that I am not abrupt about him/her not getting the position. I would also make sure to use good proof as to why I did not accept the application and in the conclusion provide some upbeat positive feedback to encourage them for the future....
