LOWER MANAGEMENT
    It was the end of the spring term 2007 and I had only one final left to study for; it was time to send out the resumes in full force. I sent out quite a few to temp-to-hire agencies in high hopes of getting a paid internship that was in some way connected to the accounting field. Being a practical and rational person, I also covered all my bases and put in applications at a few retail sporting good stores. One of the companies that I applied at was Sportsman’s Warehouse. Darren gave me an interview and on the last day of my finals, I received a job offer from him. I did have a second interview with a sports-marketing firm that promotes the Portland Beavers, The Portland Lumberjacks, and The Portland Timbers. I took the job at the sporting goods store with the hopes of getting a call from BMF Global. The call never came, nor did a call come from any other temp-to-hire prospect. Therefore, I counted my blessings and set out to do the best job I could for Sportsman’s Warehouse.
    Throughout the time that I have been employed by Sportsman’s Warehouse, I have watched the department managers very closely; my thinking is that I can learn a lot from these people. I have paid particular attention to my immediate manager, Darren Cooper. He is the one who interviewed me and eventually hired me into the camping department. Therefore, I am looking at the aspect of lower management in the multi-level management system of Sportsman’s Warehouse, using Darren Cooper as my focus.
