Sunrise Senior Living provides senior living services in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany (Yahoo Finance).  They offer a variety of independent living services to their residents depending on the level of care and service required.  Some of the services offered include housing, meals, transportation, activities, housekeeping and licensed skilled nursing services.  Sunrise’s assisted living communities are specially designed to assist in the care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and also provide medication management programs.
    Founded in 1981, Sunrise began with a simple but innovative vision- to create an alternative senior living option that would emphasize quality of life and quality of care. (SRZ, 2007).  The long-range strategic objective is to grow a senior living business through a management services business model that is built on long-term management contracts (SRZ, 2007).   Sunrise’s growth is dependent on four primary drivers which include generating revenue growth from out existing operating portfolio of owned and managed communities; adding additional communities through new construction, primarily with venture partners; generating profitable growth through the delivery of hospice and other ancillary services; and maximizing return on their own equity investment in unconsolidated ventures and other invested capital (SRZ, 2007).  
    At December 31, 2007, Sunrise operated 439 communities with a total resident capacity of approximately 54, 000 (SRZ, 2007).  Of the 439 communities, Sunrise owned or had ownership interest in 261 of these communities and managed 178 for third parties.  ...
