Management Concepts

Management Concepts

Management is an activity carried out by any kind of people, moreover influenced by their personal characteristics. All human beings need to manage their on lives, in order to do this they start using their own management skills. Some aspects of a manager such as leadership and capacity to negotiate are part of the personality of person and at the same time they define the style of the manager and his possibilities for obtaining results with a high level of performance.
During the past classes, we have been studying different management concepts.  In my opinion, the most important characteristic of a manager to help him to be outstanding is communication/listening skills. As we did some exercises in class about making critical decisions and let your employees know about it. In my point of view, it was very interesting to listen to different opinions that each of my teammates had. For example, the exercise in which we have to make decisions about they different ways to handle a situation of employees stealing office supplies from the company. In my team, we were 8 people with different opinions to the problem. We were given possible solutions, some were very drastic and some were not. From those solutions and we have as a team to come with a solution. As we were working on trying to find a solution; one of my teammates said “let’s fire them or send them to jail” (Moh 2007), another of my teammate came with other solution because we were having trouble to get one simple answer. He said “let’s vote on, by that way we can finish to exercise and make everybody happy” (Jeffrey 2007). This example showed me that one of the good characteristics of being a good manager is to listen to each other in a team and the communication between them.
