Functions of Management

                   Introduction

  According to Bates and Snell (2004), management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals. Good managers do things both effectively and efficiently. To be effective is to achieve ogranizational goals. to be efficient is to achieve goals with minimal waste of resources, this is, to make the best possible use of money, time, material, and people.  Wikipedia (2006) defines management as, "the directing, characterizes the process of leading and directing all or part of an organizations, often a business, through the deploymnet and manipulation of resources (human, financial, material, intellectual or intangible" Wikipedia (2006) continues by quoting early twenth-century management writer, Mary Parker Follett, defining management as "the art of getting things done through people." Wikipedia also states that this applies even in situtations where planning does not rake place and from this perspective, there are four management functions: Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling.  This paper will discuss management four primary functions -- planning, organzing, leading, and controlling and how each function relates to my postition as Administrator/Accountant for the organization Go Hardd!! Incorported.
