Management Trainee Job Description
      The organization will be replacing the Environmental Services Manager within the next three years when the incumbent retires.  In preparation for this vacancy, I have prepared a trainee job description for the successor.  To create the job description, I used the task analysis method (Ivancevich, 2001, chap. 6), the JASR method (Hartley, 2004), critical incident technique (Ivancevich, chap. 6), and archival job descriptions to gather data.  The “job analysis provides critically important information that will guide management decision-making” (Chang & Kleiner, 2002, p. 73) and provides an outline of the requirements for the successful trainee.  As the trainee develops, he will take on more responsibility and eventually be prepared to succeed the current manager.

Position:
Environmental Services Manager – Trainee

Organizational Relationships:
      The trainee will report to the Environmental Services Manager.  The trainee will supervise the Environmental Services Specialist and support staff.  The trainee will coordinate with other department officials and staff.

Position Summary:
      The trainee will assist management to achieve an efficient operation in the Engineering Department through all phases of solid waste and recycling operations, groundwater protection and flood protection, observing and complying with policies, provincial and federal legislation.
