In today’s day and age in order to stay ahead of the competition a business or a product has to be very creative and innovative.  Technology has been helping many industries to get ahead and in some way even driving the entire infrastructure.  The problem with this is that many IT based businesses are run by technical people rather then business oriented individuals.  But recently we started to see a different trend in the business world.  Many new information system departments and projects are being run by business graduates.  
A very important question is brought up by many people, “Does IT Matter?”  The answer to that is, yes of course it matters, especially in a technology driven environment.  But there is a very important fact that many managers need to know and that is how can “IT work strategically for their company?”  First, there are couple of fundamental principles that people need to know.  One, people need to understand that IS (information system) is not IT (information technology).  Information system is ether an activity or a process that the organization is run by, but information technology is just a component of the information system.  This is a very important key to understand the difference between them in order to be able to build the proper foundation to hold a competitive position in the market.  Second important factor is to make a strategic point, and identify the competitive standing.  A company value needs to be created by ether reducing product costs or by creating a demand for a product that customers are willing to pay for....
