Marks and Spencer (M&S) was organized in 1884 in the UK. M&S is one of the

UK’s leading retailers of clothing, food , home products and financial services. It

has over 375 stores and 155 stores managed under in 28 territories mostly in

Europe. From recent times, however, M&S experiences a performance

slowdown, it has sold most of its overseas operations in order to salvage its

stores in the UK. The company also trades in 30 countries worldwide and has a

group turnover in excess of £8 billion.

Having Vision to be the standard against which all others are measured and

Mission to make aspiration accessible to all, M&S is listed in London stock

exchange.

A) Sales and Revenue Growth.
M&S-
The retailing sales in 2004 were £8077.20(m) which had increased by a nominal
figure of .72% with that of 2003 which was £8019.10(m).
M&S have been projecting strong sales growth recently, fortunes have improved since the
launch of a recovery program. In particular, during 2004 clothing performance was strong
as a result of the focus on the appeal, quality, availability and fit of the product. Women
swear, Menswear and Lingerie all increased market share for the year. Casual wear
performed particularly strongly. The performance of children wear has been disappointing
action has been taken to improve design & consolidate ranges to offer more choice.
