In a piece called "Bridging the Gap Across the generational divide in the federal workplace", the author Marcela Kogan exposes the Human Resources aspect of being a manager by highlighting the generational differences among employees in a workplace. Not only does Kogan write about what age differences there may be in an average work environment, but she divides them into four generations. These generations include veterans, baby boomers, generation x and generation next. Representative of each generation are individuals in the work place with varying ideals as to how things should be done, as well as stereotypical impressions of other generations. What the author stresses in her piece is that it is very important to accommodate to the needs of employee's ages 18 to 80.  I agree with her notion that this is far from an easy task. Just as the author points out, it is important that a manager must adapt to different learning styles as well as create a work environment where every employee's skills are fully utilized. More so I agree with Kogan that a managers, as well as employees should take extra caution as to not perpetuate stereotypes. By taking input from several different managers, Kogan effectively enforced the message that change can be made by exploring social integration built into various company programs. By realizing that different generations of individuals will have different views as to how things are to be run, it is crucial that a manager cater to the needs and roles of his/her staff...
