Wage Discrimination
The following research paper will discuss facts in regard to wage discrimination. This paper is my understanding of how to determine if wage discrimination still exists and if it does what can we do to prevent and correct this unethical practice. I will also discuss how the American people feel about wage discrimination and show statistics proving that wage discrimination is still going on. Also showing that some people believe that wage discrimination does not exist and that somehow it is the choice that women take positions that pay less. I am interested in this subject because I feel that this practice is unfair, no other single economic factor will have a greater impact on the lives of working women and their families. If this problem continues to exist women as a whole will loose $200 billion dollars of income annually to the wage gap, or $4000.00 per year per family (June 8, 2000).
Thirty-five years ago President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law. He said that this was the first step in addressing the unconscionable practice of paying female employees less wages than male employees for the same job (elibrary, April 3, 1998
