Assume that you will be traveling (on an intermediate-term job assignment) to your country next month, and will be staying for 3 years.  If you have a family, you are all expected to relocate there for 3 years.

1)  What types of challenges do you expect that you and your family will face? (you will probably face all 10 that I listed below)
Beijing is the capital city of China. It has a population of 13 million. The life style is really different from the US. People live in apartments, take public transportation to work and eat out everyday. School will be more stressful and competitive for the kids especially they have to learn the language first. Most of the Chinese people don’t speak English so it will be hard to communicate.

2)  What can you do, prior to your trip, to prepare for this experience?
1. Healthcare
There’s quality health care in all the major cities in Beijing. Going to see a doctor is much less complicated than in the States. You can buy prescription medicine at local pharmacies. We have to make sure to bring medical history and try to learn a few Chinese words to describe common sickness.
2. Financial issues
Chinese People are not used to credit cards. A lot of the local stores don’t accept credit cards. There are several foreign banks in China and it is fairly easy to exchange money.
3. Family/Vacation Leaves
Transportation is really convenient in China. People usually travel by train or plane. Another big city Shanghai is only 2 hours away from Beijing by plane. There are also places like Tipet, Yunnan and Sichuan which are really different from big cities.
