Organizational Culture Inventory
The organization I selected to study is my current employer, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church located in Kansas City, Missouri. It is a religious non-profit organization that has been in existence for eight-six years with a corporate board, deacon board, and ministry council. There are ten paid full time employees. Our philosophy is “A place where family matters; a biblical solution for today’s issues.
Mt. Pleasants primary style is affiliative. The secondary style is humanistic-encouraging. Mt. Pleasants weakest style is approval. In reading the descriptions of the different styles, affiliative and humanistic-encouraging do in fact represent Mt. Pleasants organizational culture. Interpersonal relationships are supported. Most of the employees are very loyal and committed to the church. Approval is the weakest style and is truly not one common to the church. There have been instances of conflict where members of the corporate and deacon boards did not agree.

Some behaviors associated with the affiliative culture include friendliness, openness, and being sensitive to the satisfaction of the work group. Most of the employees are friendly and open. We all work together to get whatever project that is on the table done. With regard to the secondary style all employees are supportive of one another. Employees are allowed to go to any educational seminar that is offered. The way the church views this is the more training received the more internal resources the church has access to.
