Jim Jannard in 1975 started Oakley in his garage with only $300. First was creating a new motorcycle grip that was outside the box thinking. Jim then later designed and made the “O” Frame motorcycle goggle, that is still used to day by most professional motocross riders. Advertising and designing glasses and equipment for superstars such as Lance Armstrong, Jeff Ward, and Greg LeMond did indeed help get the Oakley name mainstream. When superstar athletes wear and only endorse Oakley products people take notice. Oakley is a company that like most started small with the intent of making products better and having fun. Oakley not only wanted to grow into a large corporation but wanted to keep a small business feel. The motto for many years was to have fun and produce the best sport and recreation eyewear, and equipment ever. It is evident from commercials, advertising, and overall sense of the company that it is a dynamically diverse company, with great people at the helm. Oakley went from a company that after work most workers took their skate boards to the local park had some beers, and skated until the sun fell under the horizon, to a company that must be precise in how it is managed and government contracts.
