Personal Perspective
    The objective of this paper is to answer the following questions: How did I decide to pursue my Master in Business Administration (MBA) and What do I expect to gain from completing my MBA program? After 6 years of weighing the pros and cons of obtaining my master’s, I finally decided that it would be the next step I would take in my life.  Organizations are looking for people who know how to take action, solve problems and provide leadership. I believe I have these skills and the one’s I don’t have I can learn by obtaining my MBA.
I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology/ Criminal Justice in 2001 from Norfolk State University. I then went back to school and obtained my certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Colorado in 2003 from Arapahoe Community College. I began working in community corrections, law enforcement and human services which are all low paid stressful careers.  I have numerous friends who I believe have less work to do on their jobs and are less stressed, however, make more money then I do. After using my degree and certification and realizing that I was not making the kind of money in 6 years that I had planned on making at an entry level position. I have come to the conclusion that having my bachelor’s degree in liberal arts is like having high school diploma.
A good friend of mine graduated from the University of Illinois in 2003 with her MBA and reported to me that she had a job and she was making approximately $65,000.00.  According to (Discover News, 2007) “the average salary ranged from $64,500 to $98,000 a year in 2007”  for a Human Resource Manager Position (Employment-Related Services (Career Area A).)  I had become frustrated with the degree I had chosen t ...
