Philosophy Paper

    . A leader is one who can instill passion and direction to an individual or group of individuals. One of the differentiating factors between management and leadership is the ability or even necessity to inspire. Leaders can come from all different types of people and can even come from people that you don’t expect. They are very important in every aspect of our lives today. Without leaders, we might be a large group of people who just follow what others are doing. If this were the case than our world just might be traveling in a huge circle. Leaders are the people in life that we look up to and the people that we listen to and trust. They have the ability to get out of us what no one else can as far as our potential. Their will always be a need for leaders and it is not out of the question for anyone to try and at least be their own leader.
    My definition of leadership would be a person who can gain trust in another person with the intent of real changes and outcomes from the relationship. There is a shared purpose between them and that is the final goal. There is a difference between leadership and management, however. Management is involved with planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling organizational resources. I don’t think that a manager and a leader are the same thing. There are instances when some people don’t consider their manager as a good leader and that is why I say they are not the same. A manager doesn’t always have to be liked while a leader is more often than not liked by his/her peers.
