An Aquine Breaks Swiss Monopoly, Aquine was key player in the quartz watch segment then, enjoying a 25 percent share of the U.S. market. The company established its mechanical watch division when Jean Dubois joined Aquine. The market share in the quartz watch segment has increased to 25 percent, however the mechanical watch division was not doing as well as expected so there had to be an investigation on why Aquine was losing is market share to the Swiss companies.
The key palyers are Howard Gray CEO who wants to find out how our watches compare with other Swiss watche. Jean Dubois VP, mechanical Watches Divison, thinks that there is nothing wrong with the quality of the watches but wants to check to see if the consumers are reacting favorably to the latest advertisment. Uma Gardner VP, Production, mechanical Watches Division, thinks that the statistics for the SOCC test and the consumer perception about the chronometes. And, Amanda Hamilton VP, Marketing, thinks that the watches do not match the quality of Swiss watches and this may be the reason why the consumers prefer to buy a Swiss chronometer.
In regards to the machines the purchases that were made was the poising machine, which is used to poise the balance wheel. Poising is important as it determines the accuracy of the movement in various positions. The timing machine is an indispensable tool for watch matchers. It helps them test the movement's performance. It is used as a diagnostic tool while assembling the movement. It is also used as a final time regulation tool. The latest computerized machine give the daily rate, the beat error, and the amplitude on the LCD screen.
