Proposal

Algonquin College has a strong mission related to its use of technology. “Algonquin College will lead in the innovative use of technology to enhance our programs, services and the environment in which we work and learn.”   This mission is geared towards providing both students and teachers with innovative resources to foster success.

Given the recent enhancements of technology used to deliver education, it is somewhat surprising that Algonquin College provides only minimal equipment for its student and faculty to facilitate group work.  SMART Boards are a new technology that combines the simplicity of whiteboards with the innovative technologies offered by computers. The visual from the computer screen is projected through the SMART Board and allows the user to control the computer by simply touching the board. SMART Boards offer the functionality of white boards but by using digital markers, it allows this to be transferred onto the computer screen.  Changes can be shared among group members via computer data files.

The proposed project will consist of three phases for the implementation of SMART Board technology at the Woodroffe Campus of Algonquin College. The first phase will consist of installing SMART technology into the two Student Association meetings. Phase two of the project will implement SMART technology in eight boardrooms on campus. In the final phase, SMART Board technology will be integrated into all lab classes.  

In order to implement SMART Board technology into the areas described, investment of new equipment will be required.
